There is still time to read the article from this month's reading suggested by WME: Women 1.5 Times More Likely to Leave STEM Pipeline after Calculus Compared to Men: Lack of Mathematical Confidence a Potential Culprit. What role can mathematics teacher educators play in developing and strengthening K-12 girls' mathematics confidence and identity? What are effective instructional practices that support the development of girls' mathematical confidence, identity, and sense of agency?

Election Results Are In!

On behalf of the nominations and elections committee, we are pleased to announce the following for the TODOS Board: President-Elect, Diana Ceja, and two new Directors Silvia Llamas-Flores from Arizona and Carlos LopezLeiva from New Mexico. They will begin their service April 5th following the TODOS business meeting prior to the NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Antonio. Thank you to all the candidates who ran for office and to all the members who suggested nominees and voted in this election. Congratulations to Diana, Silvia, and Carlos.

Social Circles Will Change

TODOS is updating its MemberClicks membership software. The data is in the process of being transported to the new version. The Social Circles in the classic version will need to be recreated. Since there isn't an April reading in a Call for a Collective Action, no new Social Circle will be created. Once the new MemberClicks is in full operation, the Collective Action Social Circle will become one Social Circle for all subsequent readings. Members will only need to join once. Current Social Circle members will receive an invitation to join.

You can go to the TODOS Live! website to access the archived webinars for the current season and some earlier webinars. Also included in the archives are the presentation slides. Are you interested in leading a webinar for TODOS Live!? Contact the chair to set up a date and time.

Network Lounge Presentations

Thursday morning author presentations in San Antonio will include Sylvia Celedón-Pattichis and Nora Ramirez (Beyond Good Teaching: Advancing Mathematics Education for ELLs) at 10:00 AM and Marta Civil (Access and Equity: Promoting High-Quality Mathematics in Grades 6-8) at 12:00 PM. All sessions will be held at NCTM Central.

Volunteer to Staff the TODOS Booth

Are you planning to attend NCSM and/or NCTM in San Antonio? If so, please support TODOS by volunteering two hours or more of your time to staff the TODOS booth. You have the opportunity to share your TODOS passion with others, to encourage them to join this great organization, and to meet other TODOS members. We need you!

Annual TODOS Members' Meeting in San Antonio

All TODOS members attending NCSM and/or NCTM in San Antonio are invited to attend the annual TODOS members' meeting. Outgoing Board members will be acknowledged and incoming Board members welcomed. The Iris M. Carl Equity and Leadership Award and Student Awards will be presented. Come and support the awardees! The meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 5th from 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM in Room 224 of the Convention Center.

TODOS Sessions and Events in San Antonio

Attend the TODOS Business Meeting and Session where outgoing Board members will be recognized and student awards will be bestowed. TODOS members will be making major presentations and have organized an exciting new Multi-lingual group of sessions.  Bring your dancing shoes for the salsa party.  If you are speaking during NCSM or NCTM, please enter your session information to share with others. TODOS Board Members on the NCTM MET Board

M. Alejandra Sorto has been appointed to the Mathematics Education Trust (MET) Board.  She is a TODOS Director, Program Chair for TODOS 2018, and Assoc. Prof. in the Mathematics Department at Texas State University, San Marcos.  Linda Fulmore, TODOS Treasurer, will serve as the 2017-2018 Chair of the MET Board.  The MET awards up to $145,000 in scholarships and grants to students, teachers and schools each year.

March Webinar-Call for a Collective Action

Did you miss the March Call for a Collective Action Webinar held March 7th? This was the webinar to discuss the second set of readings that occured in December, January, and February as part of this collective action. You can view the webinar! Although no April reading has been established, you can read the one for March. Become active in the Call for a Collective Action! You can also view the first Call for a Collective Action Webinar held in December.

TPSE Math Conference Report

College mathematics department chairs and other faculty and administrative leaders convened on March 10-11, 2017 to facilitate an inclusive movement to transform post-secondary education in mathematics in collaboration with disciplinary societies. The conference goal was establish a rich and relevant education for all students in mathematics or their chosen field of study.  A report with ideas for mathematics departments is provided by TODOS representative Ed Dickey.

Equity in Mathematics Teacher Education Book

Mathew Felton-Koestler, Ksenija Simic-Muller, and Jose María Menendez would like to announce that they have just had a book published by Information Age Publishing. The title of the book is Reflecting the World: A Guide to Incorporating Equity in Mathematics Teacher Education. This book includes practical advice for incorporating equity into mathematics teaching and has lessons for each of the strands of K-8 mathematics.

Up to $850 Stipend for Middle School Math Teachers

WestEd, a not-for-profit educational research agency, has been funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education to conduct a fall 2017 study to evaluate a classroom learning app that allows students to gain math problem-solving skills through game-play. To learn more about the study, please view this short two-minute video. WestEd anticipates recruitment for this study to begin on April 3rd. If interested, send an email to add your name to the study interest list.

Bright Ideas + Math Tools = Resources for You

This month's NCTM's Bright Ideas, the e-newsletter of Illuminations, includes information on the Networking Lounge Presentations in San Antonio. The two presentation areas will have a full slate of author presentations, opportunities to learn about and practice various instructional strategies, and chances to have more one-on-one conversations with featured speakers. Also included in Bright Ideas are resources for students in grade bands.

Exploring the Math in the Movie "Hidden Figures"

Mathematics plays a starring role in the movie "Hidden Figures," which was nominated for three Oscars. Adapted from a book of the same name, the movie chronicles the grit and ultimate triumphs of three African-American women working as "human computers" for NASA in the segregated south during the space race. As a team is trying to solve equations for the trajectory of astronaut John Glenn's space capsule, one of the women hits upon a solution: "Euler's Method."

Final MATHgazines for 2016

The final two issues of Mathgazines for 2016 are included December MATHgazine Junior and December MATHgazine Senior. These four-page MATHgazines target students in grades 4-8 and students in grades 9-12 and are edited by Carole Greenes, Jason Lu, and Yifan Tian. Mathgazines for 2017 will be include in future issues of Enews.
