TODOS Live! Quick Talks on Equity Twitter Chat
Quick Talks on Equity (QTE) have begun, and the first one was presented by Susie Håkansson on Incorporating Equity into the Lesson Study Process with the focus on how to incorporate practices that increase access to and success in cognitively demanding mathematics. The first Twitter Chat will be held on April 29th at 4:00 PM Pacific Time. #TOLQTE1.

NSF We Are Mathematics Video Competition
The 2019 NSF We Are Mathematics Video Competition is holding People's Choice voting from April 2-30 on semifinalist 3-minute videos that showcase for broad audiences NSF-funded projects, and at least one video features a project from a talk at the 2018 TODOS Conference. The entry that receives the most votes in each category will be designated the People's Choice winner. Vote!

Teaching Mathematics through Social Justice
The New England Mathematics Journal (NEMJ) received the 2019 Publication Award for Outstanding Journal by NCTM! Beverly J. Ferruci, Editor, wishes to thank all the TODOS Members for their contributions to the NEMJ issue on Teaching Mathematics through Social Justice that provided the impetus for this award. Congratulations! Keep up the great efforts.

Acquiring the Keys to Access and Equity
The theme of the 60th Annual Georgia Mathematics Conference is “Acquiring the Keys to Access and Equity.” TODOS members are encouraged to submit a proposal to speak at their conference to be held October 16-18, 2019, at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. See the flyer for information. Deadline is June 1st.

Call for NCSM 2020 Conference Proposals
Consider submitting a proposal to speak at the NCSM 2020 Annual Conference to be held in Chicago on March 30 – April 1, 2020, with the conference theme, Connect. Collaborate. Commit. One of the strands supports TODOS’ Goals: Monitor Evidence of Equitable Mathematics Learning. Proposals will be accepted until June 1, 2019.

Speak at the NCTM Centennial Annual Meeting
The call for proposals for the NCTM Centennial Annual Meeting & Exposition in Chicago in 2020 is now open. The theme is “Celebrating 100 Years – Looking Back and Moving Forward.” One of the five strands is: Build Student Agency, Foster Student Identity, and Promote Social Change. Deadline is July 1st.

Why Doesn’t Math Class Evoke Joy?
Math anxiety and fear is commonplace among today's students. In the commentary, Pamela Burdman asserts that educators should change their approach to teaching math, starting by agreeing to the basic understanding that all students are capable of learning math. Let’s end the myth that only some people are good at math.

Critical Mathematical Inquiry
The most recent Occasional Paper Series by Bank Street College of Education focuses on Critical Mathematical Inquiry, edited by Steven Greenstein and Mark Russo. Several TODOS members made contributions to this series including Teddy Chao, Frances Harper, Lynette Guzmán, and Laurie Rubel. The editorial board has been pleasantly surprised in the amount of interest this issue has generated.

Presidential Awards (PAEMST)
TODOS members are encouraged to participate in the Presidential Awards (PAEMST). PAEMST provides many resources (including an outreach flyer in Spanish) to recruit teachers to apply and is eager to broaden participation to increase the diversity in the pool of applicants. Nominations open in the fall for teachers of grades K-6.

Navajo Math Circles
There will be a film screening of Navajo Math Circles by George Paul Csicsery at the National Museum of the American Indian on May 4th from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This film documents some of the country’s most accomplished mathematicians and math educators meeting with the children and teachers in the underserved, largely rural Navajo educational system.

National Math Festival in Less Than Two Weeks
Celebrate the National Math Festival in Washington, DC, on May 4th. If you are intrigued by the National Math Festival, but are unable to travel to Washington, D.C., play along in your hometown by visiting one of dozens of museums around the U.S. that will be offering Zometool Bubble Station demos on Saturday, May 4th! Go mathematics!
