This has been a challenging year. Those of you in the classroom have had to adapt to whatever situation occurred with your students. You have adapted to the ebb and flow of daily changes, keeping the health and emotional welfare of your students in the forefront in addition to planning for relevant and effective mathematics instruction. You are to be credited for your efforts to maintain equity, diversity, and inclusion at the heart of your instruction. You are the students’ heroes. It’s time to take a break for the winter holidays to refresh, rejuvenate, and reflect. Have a happy holiday season.

EONAS Meeting Announcement
Educators of Native American Students (EONAS), a TODOS Special Interest Group (SIG), will hold a meeting on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 4:00 PM Pacific Time. The meeting link will be sent to EONAS members. Contact the editor if you want to join EONAS. EONAS advocates for equity and high-quality mathematics education for all students, in particular, Native American students. This meeting will determine next steps and recruit leaders to carry the ideas forward.

Equity/Inclusion for LGBTQ+ Students: TODOS Town Hall
TODOS is in the process of launching a Special Interest Group (SIG) focused on advocating for equity and inclusion in mathematics education for LGBTQ+ students. We invite anyone interested in the SIG (tentatively named: TOD∀XS) and its mission to attend a Town Hall on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 4:30 PM Pacific Time to discuss visions for the SIG as well as to obtain community input on its goals and bylaws. 2022 NCTM Research Conference Registration
The 2022 NCTM Research Conference will be a one-day virtual event to be held on January 7, 2022 and will bring together novice and veteran researchers to share and exchange knowledge about a wide variety of studies in the field. Together participants will explore emerging trends, discuss possible solutions, and connect and collaborate in and through their research in mathematics education. Register today! UArizona CRR presents the 18th MEAD Conference
Registration for the MEAD Conference is OPEN! The UArizona Center for Recruitment and Retention of Mathematics Teachers (CRR) is hosting the Mathematics Educator Appreciation Day Conference (MEAD) virtually on Saturday, January 22, 2022. The keynote speaker, Fawn Nguyen, is a master teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience and a math leader with an impactful online presence. MEAD is FREE for all Arizona educators and $125 for everyone else. Spread the word by sharing the flyer and conference webpage.

The Dana Center Launch Years Leadership Network was created to bring mathematics organization leaders together to collaborate on improving experiences and outcomes for students in the transition from the last two years of high school to the first two years of postsecondary mathematics. The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) opens its nomination drive for K–6 teachers. The pandemic has shown that so many teachers are dedicated to giving students access to high-quality, STEM education. Getting Rigorous About Mathematical Rigor
There have been countless discussions and different interpretations of what mathematical rigor is. The term as it is often used—to stand in for math content that is abstract or abstruse, homework that is grueling, and classes that only some are worthy to take—bears little resemblance to what many math educators have in mind. For this month’s blog, Pamela Burdman breaks down some uses of the term “rigor” in mathematics, highlighting a new effort by math educators in Ohio to redefine it.
