2009 NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition

The NCTM meeting is coming up April 22-25th, 2009 in Washington D. C. TODOS: Mathematics for All will have its annual business meeting, program and reception Thursday, April 23rd. View this PDF file for more information.

Call for Proposals for the 2010 NCTM Meeting

Call for Proposals for the 2010 NCTM Meetings and Regional Conferences are now open. You have until May 1, 2009 to submit your proposals. Indicate that you are a TODOS member if you submit a proposal. If you would like to be considered for the TODOS strand, please submit your proposal to NCTM and then submit this form to Carol Edwards by March 17th.

Professional Development Opportunities

NCTM Spring E-Workshop Series has online workshops.

Science training opportunities from Cornell University for Grade 5-9 teachers will be held in August. Applications are due by March 2.

Awards and Scholarships

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation is once again conducting a nation-wide search for the best and the brightest Hispanic/Latino student leaders. The Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards offers educational grants of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 in several categories to qualified Hispanic/Latino high school seniors. Students are also eligible to receive free laptops and a free trip to Washington, DC to attend the Hispanic Heritage Awards ceremony! Recursos en espaol is a portal of Spanish language resources on topics of particular interest to the Hispanic community, such as special education, financial aid, adult education, and more. The Journal of the Association of Mexican American Educators has a call for manuscripts for their 2009 edition. For more information and the opportunity to download PDF files of their 2007-2008 journals visit their site.

The Office of the Education secretary, Arne Duncan, has released information on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), a "historic opportunity to create jobs and advance education reform." New Director, Hispanic Outreach and Communications
Ida Eblinger Kelley is serving as the new Director for Hispanic Outreach and Communications at the Department of Education. In this capacity she will serve as the liaison to Hispanic associations, community groups, and business organizations to foster a two-way conversation about policies, legislation and other resources. As part of this effort, her aim is to collaborate with organizations to provide Hispanic and Spanish-speaking students and families with the information and resources to facilitate educational success.
