Imagine Sessions are 40 minutes in length and engage participants in the radical imagination of the possibilities for educational advocacy and justice with a short-burts session showcasing research, projects, or innovations connecting such ideas to participant’s practice. Read the descriptions!

Are Math Assignments Measuring Up? 

Ed Trust examined more than 1,800 math assignments given to middle-school students from six districts. Educators must do more to provide students with quality math assigments that promote cognitive challenge, balance procedural skills and fluency with conceptual understanding, and engage students with opportunities for choice and relevance in their math content. 

Being Eñye, a Documentary Film

Many Eñyes (first generation American born Latinos) don’t feel fully connected – not “American enough” among Americans and not “Latino enough” among Latinos, leaving them feeling like they don’t truly belong anywhere. ICMI STUDY 23 Available

The volume of the ICMI STUDY 23 is "Building the Foundation: Whole Numbers in the Primary Grades” and now available (open access). This is the first ICMI study to provide a broad critical survey of research (meta-level analysis and synthesis) on early childhood mathematics and whole number arithmetic, while also taking international perspectives, socio-cultural diversity and institutional constraints into account.

Unlocking Learning II: Mathematics

The Unlocking Learning II: Math as a Lever for English Learner Equity, a report by The Education Trust - West highlights how English learners are faring in Calfiornia and provides real-word examples of schools and districts closing gaps for English learners. Unlocking Learning II offers specific practice and policy recommendations at the school, district, and state level for how to best integrate math education with English language development and unlock the potential of English learners. 

Mathematics Educator Position Available

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at SDSU invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level in mathematics education. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education or a closely related field and should have a solid background in mathematics and mathematics education, strong potential for research, experience or interest in working with faculty, staff, and students in a mathematics learning and tutoring center, and plans for extramural funding.
