TODOS Election Results

Thanks to all TODOS members who took the time to vote in the 2021 TODOS Election. The newly elected Board members are the following: Florence Glanfield, President-Elect; Sylvia Celedón-Pattichis, Vice President; and Marian Dingle, Director. They will begin their term on May 1, 2021. Congratulations!

Social Justice Quote for March 2021 Enews

Social justice should be part of every aspect of the curriculum: math, science, social studies, language arts, etc. It’s an infusion, not an isolated add-on.

Did you know NCTM has over 30 grants, scholarships, and other awards for NCTM Members and awards around $150,00 annually? Go to the website to view all of the opportunities available for teachers, teacher-leaders, coaches, pre-service teachers, etc. Apply now for the summer cycle of MET Grants (Due by May 1).

TODOS Live! Teaching Math for Social Justice

Robert Q. Berry III, Basil M. Conway IV, Brian R. Lawler, and John W. Staley, the authors of High School Mathematics Lessons to Explore, Understand, and Respond to Social Injustice, will present Teaching Mathematics for Social Justice at the next TODOS Live! to be held on Wednesday, March 31 at 4:00 PM Pacific time. Join them as they unpack ideas to promote thought and action toward TMSJ in the high school classroom. Register now!

CASIO-TODOS Distance Learning & Access Webinars

The final CASIO-TODOS webinar as part of the Distance Learning and Access series will be held at 7:00 PM Eastern time on Wednesday, March 24 titled Can You Hear Me? Engaging English Learners Online and presented by Maya Gueron. Explore strategies, routines, and scaffolds that allow English learners to engage in remote learning and share their voices in the online classroom. Come to see how all learners can shine. TODOS 2021 Conference

The TODOS 2021 Virtual Conference will be held June 21-23, 2021. The registration fee is $75 with a one-year complimentary TODOS membership or $125 with a three-year complimentary membership. Registration is now open. Go to the TODOS 2021 Conference website for additional information. TODOS is excited to add a second keynote speaker, Kristopher Childs, teacher, professor, consultant, and member of senior leadership teams.

TODOS Leadership Institute: Taking Action for Equity

The TODOS 2021 Leadership Institute is coming in three months! Promote the institute by downloading and distributing the flyer. Learn how to be a change-agent taking action for equity in mathematics eduction. Registration is limited to 45 attendees. The institute will be held June 24-25 from 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM Pacific time. Cost is $75. Go to the website for additional information and to register.

Are You Speaking at the NCTM 2021 Virtual Meeting?

The NCTM 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting will be held April 21-24 and April 28–May 1. Many TODOS members are speaking, and TODOS will provide information to attendees regarding the sessions led by TODOS members. If you are speaking, go to the TODOS Sessions at NCTM and enter the information requested. This list will be posted at the TODOS Virtual Booth both on the TODOS website and the TODOS exhibit at NCTM.

2021 National TODOS Student Awards

Nominate your students for the National TODOS Student Awards. TODOS will recognize 10 students in Grades 5-12 during the TODOS 2021 Virtual Conference. They will receive a TI calculator and nominating teachers of award winners will receive a one-year membership/renewal in TODOS. The deadline is Thursday, April 1st. Students, families, and teachers will be honored at a virtual ceremony on Monday, June 21.

Included is information about mathematics education conferences, TODOS webinars, and other events. If you wish to add a calendar item that fits into one of the listed categories, send the relevant information to the TODOS editor by the 15th of the month.

Attending NCTM 2021 Virtual Meeting? Staff the Booth!

TODOS will have a virtual exhibit booth at the NCTM 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting. If you are planning to attend NCTM, sign up to staff the TODOS booth during exhibit hours. TODOS is planning several round table discussion sessions during exhibit hours in the TODOS demo room and will ask members to facilitate the discussions. Possible topics are in the sign-up sheet, or you can create your own topics.

NCSM Virtual Bold Leadership Summit

The NSCM Bold Leadership Summit to be held April 25-27, 2021, with the theme Mathematics Leadership: Engaging in Essential Actions, is going to be unlike any other event you have attended. The keynote speaker is Ken Williams, and his firsthand experience with transforming challenged schools translates to engaging in essential actions. Register today.

National Science Board Addresses Missing Millions

NSB’s Vision 2030 emphasizes the urgent need for greater participation of women and underrepresented groups in science and engineering. NSB passed two resolutions to advance both goals. One aims to address unconscious biases and improve the preparedness of proposal reviewers. The second seeks to increase the potential of proposals’ Broader Impacts to benefit society.

National Math Festival

Join the National Math Festival (NMF) in one month for the 2021 NMF Live Online Weekend starting Friday, April 16 through Sunday, April 18! The NMF is a youth-centered environment, with moderated chat, live support staff at the online help desk during Festival hours, and dedicated activities for every age group: 2-4, 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-18, 18+, and All Ages.
