On October 18, our Distinguished Past President, Dr. Miriam A. Leiva was one of seven recipients of the Diamante Award for her significant contribution in education to the Hispanic community of North Carolina. Diamante, Inc. hosted the 13th Annual Latino Diamante Awards, North Carolina's most prestigious Latino/Hispanic event.

The Nominations and Elections Committee is Calling for Nominees for the office of President-Elect and a Member-at-Large of TODOS. Nominations are due November 15, 2008.

Call for TODOS' Monograph Extended



The Research and Publications committee of TODOS has extended the deadline for submission of monographs until December 31, 2008. The focus of the monograph will be on the assessment of Hispanic/Latino students in mathematics.

Professional Development Opportunities

NCTM Fall E-Workshop Series has online workshops.

Free webinars are still going on this month that present the latest research and practice on the instruction of English Learners: School's Moving Up-A West Ed Initiative.

Middle Schools needed for participation in a Research Study on the impact of the Fostering Geometric Thinking Toolkit. District Representatives should contact Mark Driscoll [[email protected]] by Friday November 14.

Awards and Scholarships

NCTM's Mathematics Education Trust has a number of grants available for teachers. Among them is the Equity in Mathematics Grant for middle school teachers. Applications for this grant must be postmarked by Nov. 14.

Applications for the TODOS Duke Energy Foundation Awards, which provide scholarships for TODOS members to attend 2009 NCTM or 2009 NCSM conferences, will be available soon.

Web Resources

TODOS is in the process of moving available job opportunities to the Bulletin Board area of the website.

The TODOS website has resources available for members. One of these is the 2007 Bibliography on Equity and Diversity in Mathematics Educaction. Access this and other resources after you have logged in as a member.

Teacher's Domain now offers over 1,500 classroom-ready resources for grades k-12.
