From the TODOS President

Last week I had the chance to attend a meeting with colleagues from around the world and learned about some teachings of the Quechua people, South American First Peoples, and their language / dialects. One of the speakers at the meeting paraphrased some of the teachings in helping our collective to vision a future - the speaker shared that in Quechua, the word for “behind” is the same word as “future” and the phrase “in front” is the same as “in past.” The image the speaker shared is that .... Go to the President's full message.

The Schedule at a Glance will give you a brief overview of the TODOS 2023 Conference. The Draft Full Schedule including speakers and session titles is now available for viewing. The detailed bios with photos of the two conference keynote speakers and the four impact speakers will give you a flavor of the breadth and depth of the conference. The impact speakers will give a preview of their sessions during lunch on Thursday, June 22 before their sessions. Don't delay. Register today for the conference! 

20th Anniversary Highlights: TODOS Presidents

Since 2003, TODOS has had 10 Presidents with Miriam Leiva the Founding President. Elections began in 2004, and the following have served as presidents: Miriam Leiva (2004-08), Nora Ramirez (2008-10), Jose Franco (2010-11), Bob McDonald (2011-12), Don Balka (2012-14), Susie Håkansson (2014-16), Diane Kinch (2016-18), Diana Ceja (2018-20), and Linda Fulmore (2020-22). The current president is Florence Glanfield. Attend the TODOS 2023 Conference to see their presentation on June 23!

TODOS Live! May 17, 2023

The May 17 TODOS Live! session to be held at 4:00 PM Pacific Time will feature the upcoming book TODOS is releasing that builds on the TODOS 2020 Position Papers and Commentaries. Antiracist Mathematics Education: Stories of Acknowledgement, Action, and Accountability, features Marilyn Strutchens, Gladys Krause, Dorothy Y. White, and Jennifer Bay-Williams, who will discuss highlights that includes activities, vignettes, stories, and action steps. Register now. 

TODOS Live! Clip of the Month

Each month the Professional Development Committee will be featuring a TODOS Live!, Podcast, or Blog in the Electronic News. This month we are sharing Beyond Land Acknowledgements: A conversation by Glanfield, Gutiérrez, and Tsinnajinnie around the significance for mathematics education. It was a powerful presentation from the TODOS President and keynote speakers for the TODOS 2023 (Tsinnajinnie) and TODOS 2014 (Gutiérrez) Conferences.

TODOS Video Project: Videos Available to Members

Thanks to a grant from the Heising-Simons Foundation TODOS has been organizing and editing its vast video library that includes many of the TODOS Live! sessions over the years. Also included are the videos from the Virtual TODOS 2021 conference available to all members. Here is one from Brandie Waid, Queering the Unqueerable: Rethinking the Geometric Proof. Brandie is also an Impact Speaker at the TODOS 2023 Conference.

Your Circles and Spheres of Influence

Are members in your math ed network - your circles and spheres of influence - aware of the TODOS 2023 Conference? Remind them that the conference rates increase by $50 on May 22, from $399 to $449. That is also the date when room rates at the conference hotel, Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, increase. Get the word out about the TODOS 2023 Conference. Hope to see you there!

Congratulate TODOS for 20 Years By Purchasing an Ad

Congratulate TODOS on its 20th Anniversary by purchasing an ad in the TODOS 2023 Conference online program and sending a message of commendation for its efforts to advocate for equity and high quality mathematics for all students. Cost: 1/8 page, $60; 1/4 page, $100; 1/2 page, $150; and full page, $280. If you are interested, contact the editor by Monday, April 24. 

Equity Book Club for AMTE Members

The AMTE Equity Committee is planning on starting an Equity Book Club in Fall 2023 to increase connection and growth among AMTE members. Interested members are asked to complete a two-question survey by April 26. This is an opportunity to be more actively engaged with AMTE members and colleagues to discuss equity issues in depth.
