You will receive this newsletter on the eve of the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, June 20. The Summer Solstice has the longest number of hours of sunlight and is significant in many cultures, and in particular, Indigenous cultures. I specifically mention Indigenous cultures as June 21 is National Indigenous People’s Day in Canada and this year, the TODOS: Mathematics for ALL community will be gathered together on June 21 in the place now called Albuquerque, ... TODOS 2023 Conference Is Here!

The TODOS 2023 Conference is upon us. It begins tomorrow, June 21 with dinner at 6:00 pm. The last TODOS in person conference was held in June 2019. Four years have passed since then and those of us planning to attend are eager to get together to meet, give, share, and learn with and from each other. The conference program gives an indication of the impressive and energetic sessions being presented by colleagues committed to the mission and goals of TODOS. See you there!

TODOS 2023 Events: TOD∀XS= and NCTM

TOD∀XS=, the official 2SLGBTQIA+ SIG of TODOS, will hold a meetup of 2SLGBTQIA+ Educator & Allies tentatively scheduled for Thursday, June 22, at 8 pm at Sidewinders Bar and Grill for their bimonthly Carlyoke event (Karaoke and drag). Sign up for updates! NCTM will be holding a focus group on Thursday, June 22 from 6-7 to get feedback from educators in order to serve math teachers and the larger mathematics community better. Sign up to attend the focus group!

20th Anniversary Highlights: TODOS Conferences

TODOS held its first conference in June 2014 at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass in Phoenix, AZ. The second and third conferences in June 2016 and June 2018 were held at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort in Scottsdale, AZ. In June 2021, there was a virtual conference. TODOS 2023 will begin tomorrow, June 21 at the Hotel Albuquerque in New Mexico. It’s been four years since the last in person conference, and those of you attending are in for a treat. Volunteer at CAMT, June 26-28

The Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching (CAMT) 2023 will be held in Fort Worth, TX at the Fort Worth Convention Center and Omni Fort Worth Hotel June 26-28. The theme this year is Let’s Talk Math. TODOS will again have an Exhibit Booth and members attending CAMT are encouraged to sign up to staff the booth. There will be over 4,000 attendees, one of the largest mathematics education conferences in the U.S.

ICME-15 in Australia, July 7-14, 2024

The Second Announcement of ICME-15 is now available. The Fifteenth International Congress on Mathematics Education (ICME-15) will be held in Sydney, Australia, July 7-14. Submissions are open for the Topic Study Groups (TSGs). Consider submitting a paper or a proposal for a poster. All the information about TSGs is available, including the description paper for each. Go to the ICME-15 website for additional information and updates.

Integral Voices From Just Equations

Just Equations announces the release of their new report, Integral Voices: Examining Math Experiences of Underrepresented Students. This report examines the perspectives of students on the role of high school math in college admissions to shed light on the processes, policies, and strategies that help or hinder students in preparing for college success. Its focus is on students who are historically underrepresented.

Communicating With Multilingual Populations

Heising-Simons Foundation is pleased to share Communicating with Multilingual Populations: Language Access Toolkit, a new resource for nonprofits to integrate language access efforts into their organizational or programmatic communications with populations with limited English proficiency. The toolkit shares practical information intended to foster organizational fluency around language accessibility.

Developing Equity and Critical Statistical Literacy

The latest AMTE Teaching Math Teaching Podcast is titled Developing Equity Literacy and Critical Statistical Literacy in Secondary Mathematics Preservice Teachers. The Podcast provides an overview of the materials’ design and presents evidence regarding the positive impact of these materials on teacher candidates' competency and value.
