THE TODOS 2012
Iris Carl Leadership and Equity Award
AWARD DESCRIPTION
The TODOS Iris Carl Leadership and Equity Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the quality of mathematics education provided to underserved students, in particular to Hispanic/Latino students. The honoree is a mathematics educator who exhibits commitment to improving the mathematics education for all students and has made, or is making unique contributions that have impacted equity and access for underserved students. The individual’s work in improving mathematics has influenced the school, community, leaders and practitioners, and its impact has been sustained. The awardee will be announced and recognized during the annual TODOS Business Meeting on April 25, 2012 in Philadelphia. The recipient will receive a plaque and lifetime membership in TODOS.
Criteria
The candidate must meet most of the following criteria:
- Has promoted excellence in mathematics education for all students.
- Has made a significant impact on the lives of all students, in particular Latino/Hispanic students.
- Has created opportunities or eliminated barriers for all students to engage in mathematics.
- Leads by example in practice and professional achievement.
- Has led sustained initiatives to improve the quality of mathematics education and success for all students.
- Promotes high quality mathematics education for all students
Nomination Process
Candidates for the award must be nominated by TODOS members by emailing the completed Nomination Packet in support of a candidate who meets the criteria outlined above by February 10, 2012 to Kay Gilliland at gillilandk@mac.com. The Nomination Packet must include the following three sections: (1) the Nomination Cover page, (2) the Nominee Information page, and (3) Narrative which specifically addresses the criteria for the award and describes the merits and contributions of the nominee.

Selection Process
A TODOS committee will review all nominations and select the recipient of the award. Questions regarding the Nomination and Selection Processes for the Award should be directed to Bill Jasper, TODOS Awards Chair, at jasper@shsu.edu.
All nominations must be received by February 10, 2012
