TODOS 2021 Leadership Institute

The TODOS 2021 Leadership Institute will be held June 24-25 from 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM Pacific time. Learn how to be a change-agent taking action for equity in mathematics eduction. Registration is limited to 45 attendees. Cost is $75 and includes materials for the institute. Go to the website for additional information and to register.

Statement on Violence Against Asian Americans

Support our Asian American friends and colleagues by speaking out against racism in all its forms. Speak out against violence, especially when it is difficult or may cause a backlash. To quote Katherine Cho, “We cannot take social justice for granted: we cannot mitigate, dilute, or wave-away harmful actions.” Go to the full statement.

In Memoriam: Remembering Dr. Lee Stiff

Dr. Lee Stiff passed away on Friday, March 19. His many awards include the TODOS 2017 Iris M. Carl Equity and Leadership Award and the 2019 NCTM Lifetime Achievement Award. He also contributed to TODOS in many ways, including as the opening keynote speaker at the TODOS 2016 Conference. Please see these thoughts from TODOS President Linda M. Fulmore.

TODOS Speakers at NCTM

The NCTM 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting is coming soon, and many TODOS members are speaking. If you are speaking and haven’t entered your information, go to TODOS Sessions at NCTM and do so TODAY! The sheet will become view only on April 21. You can also send the information to the editor.

Staff the TODOS Booth at NCTM

TODOS will have a virtual exhibit booth at the NCTM 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting. If you attending  NCTM, sign up to staff the TODOS booth during exhibit hours in the demo room where attendees can visit. Exhibits are open from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM Eastern Time on April 22-25 and April 29-May 1. 

NCSM Leadership Academy

The NCSM Summer Leadership Academy will be held June 28-30, 2021. Mathematics leaders will leave equipped to develop a shared vision for mathematics instruction, implement high leverage teaching strategies, develop coaching structures, and monitor student learning for ALL students through an equity lens.

NCSM Bold Leadership Summit

The NCSM Bold Leadership Summit will be held April 25-27. Participants will be grouped in four job-alike pathways: coaches, elementary leaders, secondary leaders and district leaders. The members will rotate in home groups through sessions focusing on the four guiding principles from the Framework for Leadership in Mathematics Education: Advocate, Design, Empower, and Monitor. 2021 CANMEE Virtual Lesson Study Convening

CANMEE will be holding its 2021 Virtual Lesson Study Convening May 14, 15, and 22 with the theme The power of discourse to enhance students’ mathematical agency. Keynote speakers will be Robert Q. Berry, III and Kathryn B. Chval. Attendees will receive a free e-copy of Teaching Math to Multilingual Students, Grades K-8 by Chval, Smith, Trigos-Carrillo, and Pinnow. Registration is complimentary.

Crucero Matemático

The Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival will be hosting Crucero Matemático, an all-Spanish event featuring people from across Latin America and Spain, on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 1:00 PM Eastern Time. This is a free, family-friendly virtual event that will feature games and stories about mathematicians from 22 Spanish-speaking countries and the United States. This virtual event will feature live interactive sessions for the whole family. Register today!

State of School Education

In 2020, 1.5 billion students in 188 countries were locked out of their schools. Students have been faced with schools that are open one day and closed the next, causing massive disruption to their learning. The OECD has been monitoring the situation and collecting data on how each system is responding to the crisis. Go to the report for the preliminary findings.
