Professional Development Opportunities NCTM Fall E-Workshop Series has online workshops. Science training opportunities from Cornell University for Grade 5-9 teachers in August. Awards and Scholarships Applications for the TODOS Duke Energy Foundation Awards, which provide scholarships for TODOS members to attend 2009 NCTM or 2009 NCSM conferences, is available NOW. Application deadline extended to January 23, 2009. Applications for the Iris Carl Award which recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the quality of mathematics education provided to underserved students, in particular to Latino/Hispanic students will be available soon. Start thinking of a nominee NOW. TODOS’ Student Recognition Awards is open for students at the Greater San Diego Mathematics Conference on February 6, 2009. Application forms can be downloaded and are due December 12, 2008. |
Web Resources The TODOS website has resources available for members. One of these is the Biblioteca National de Manipuladores Virtuales. This is the Spanish equivalent of the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) from Utah State University. Together they are a library of interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives or concept tutorials, mostly in the form of Java applets, for mathematics instruction (K-12 emphasis). On any page of the website, users can easily switch between English and Spanish by using a drop-down menu.
